Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteering for the community. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. He played football with his three brothers in Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. Also, they won two national championships. He received a third scholarship in 1975, and was designated an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work in his college days. He moved to Tampa after college, played with the Buccaneers for nine seasons and played three times in the all-pro league. His career in business began. He was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds in his college days. He played for the team of 1975. In 1993, he became the athletic director's assistant at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1989 The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
